attention to three Lukan texts related to the ideas of intermediate state and resurrection: Luke 16:19–31; 23:40–43; and 24:36–49. This will allow me to question the basis for belief in an intermediate state as well as to press our thinking about the character of resurrection existence and the nature of personal identity (and, particularly, the persistence of personal identity beyond the grave). Third, I will turn to 1 Corinthians 15 (and, then, 2 Cor 5) as a way of focusing attention on Paul’s understanding
